Heaven knows I've had enough injuries to recognize one when i see it, even if it isn't the usual kind.
its the first week of the new year and i have a work sustained injury. My eyes are permanently tired, even when i wake up. The only time i have experienced this before was when I was playing diablo 3 and in the top 10 Singaporean players.
This is the difference between work and study. Everyone knows how hard i studied in uni. But you can't study nonstop everyday for a sustained period of time. At least, I couldn't. I'm human. Natural laziness takes over. You reward yourself with a huge number of breaks. Breaks after acing a test. Breaks after an extended period of study. Heck, even a 3 hour break for finishing a particularly tough question wasn't out of the ordinary. And hardcopy material is probably less taxing on the eyes than softcopy.
But work is a different animal completely. It doesn't feel like work, as much as study does. In fact, if i compare it to my past experiences, it feels more like a game addiction. I can't stop. But i did it this time. I've gone too far. Even a weekend isolated from electronics didn't return it to normal, far from it. The top of my eyes hurt like the devil. And i can barely keep my eyes open. Im not sleepy at all, i get my 8 hours every night. Its some serious eye-fatigue, the likes of which i have never experienced before.
I will recover sooner or later.
But new habits are required. Breaks must be enforced. Because the drop in efficiency when my body cannot keep up, is not worth it. Not just when my eyes break down. Lower back is another common issue for many as well. And my rest period must not involve electronics. Facebooking isn't rest. Neither are games nor youtube.
